Ngooloo Campus at BSC
For the majority of young people, attending school, participating in classes and interacting with teachers and peers is stimulating and engaging. However, individually tailored or flexible learning opportunities may need to be provided for some young people, particularly those who require additional support to meet their learning needs, to ensure that they do not become disengaged from education.
What is Ngooloo at BSC?
Ngooloo is a campus of Bairnsdale Secondary College (BSC), offering an alternative and flexible VCE VM pathway for students. It provides opportunities for highly individualised student programs, designed to support students to continue their education and wellbeing journey. The program at Ngooloo also provides wrap-around supports, including access to specialists to address personal, health and social concerns, including mental health professionals and counsellors. Students can also access work and vocational experiences and have opportunities to develop networks within the local community.
Where is Ngooloo?
The Ngooloo Campus of BSC is located in The Hub, a community shared facility in Dalmahoy Street Bairnsdale, operated by the East Gippsland Shire Council. The Hub houses other community recreational and educational groups, which provide further opportunities for Ngooloo students to access supports and programs to suit their individual needs.
Who attends Ngooloo?
A small number of young people require a more flexible learning option outside a mainstream school environment for the purpose of re-engaging in education.
The program at Ngooloo offers tailored support for students who are disengaged, or who are at risk of disengaging, from mainstream school. Students in the senior years of secondary education who may have complex learning requirements, or those who experience ongoing difficulty engaging in a mainstream education program, may access a re-engagement program at the Ngooloo Campus.
A transition to, or enrolment at, Ngooloo will only be made with the full consent of the student and the student’s parents / carers. Relevant BSC staff and other stakeholders such as Student Support Groups, counsellors and Lookout representatives may also be consulted.
Outcomes for students
We aim for students attending the College’s Ngooloo Campus to:
The aim is for students to leave Ngooloo with a suite of work and life skills that enable them to engage meaningfully with employment and successfully navigate life after they leave the College.
