Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Our aim is for every student to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, practices and attitudes necessary in a progressively digital environment.

Our aim is for every student to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, practices, and attitudes necessary in a progressively digital environment.  We are committed to embracing the opportunities that digital technology provides to our students in their future endeavours and aspirations and believe that a program where students have access to the same technology and support will greatly enhance their skills, access and practices necessary in a progressively more digital environment.

As responsible users of technology, students can be safe online and gain the greatest benefit from the opportunities provided when using digital technologies in the classroom. Safe and responsible behaviour is explicitly taught at our College and parents/carers are requested to reinforce this behaviour at home.

Student Learning
There are significant benefits of students having access to their own device:
  • effective collaboration opportunities via online applications – this allows (and promotes) collaboration beyond the school day
  • improved organisational skills through online applications
  • developing essential life skills. There is a greater need to be technologically savvy beyond school
  • access to new and varied information, ideas and viewpoints
  • additional support and information to assist learning
  • training in appropriate and safe use of their devices
  • development of modern and authentic learning experience.

Curriculum benefits of a managed BYOD program
  • access to a greater array of free software through the Edustar image – this enables a teacher to confidently arrange a lesson knowing students will have the required program
  • downtime due to damage and repairs will be significantly reduced.
  • staff will know what students have on their devices, minimising confusion and preparation at the start of a lesson.

Purchasing a new device
If you plan to purchase a new device as a BYOD there is no requirement that you purchase from any particular supplier.

Devices should have:
  • CPU Intel Core i3
  • 8 Gig RAM
  • at least 128 GB of storage
  • 12.2 " screen
  • Current Version operating system (Windows 11 Home or higher)
  • Anti-Virus Software
  • Battery life sufficient for all class use
  • Wireless Integrated Card '802.11abgn", "802.llagn", "802.1lac"
If you choose to take up the BYOD option, it is strongly recommended that you purchase a Windows based device.
